About Us

Tatenhill Aviation Ltd was founded in 1987 to serve aircraft owners and operators with an approved maintenance facility at a competitive cost. A later addition to the company was the introduction of a flying school which operates a varied fleet of light aircraft and provides instruction through its flying instructors, all of which have many years of teaching experience.

The company was expanded in 1996 to include an avionics approval with the aim of providing avionics installation, fault finding and rectification work on a host of aircraft types. The avionics approval was again expanded in 2005 with the addition of an EASA Part 21 Subpart J Design Organisation Approval.

In 2025 the airfield was purchased with a renewed focus on the Flight Training, with exciting plans for further developments at Tatenhill. The refurbished and extended cafe is open to the public and is open 7 days per week, giving runway views while serving hot and cold food. 

Home to the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity

Midlands Air Ambulance charity operate one of its helicopters from here at Tatenhill Airfield. Each helicopter has been specially adapted for carrying out life saving missions, to enable the aircrew to treat patients at the incident scene before transferring them to the most appropriate specialist hospital for their injuries. The aircraft carries an aircrew comprising of a pilot, two paramedics or flight doctors plus full life-support medical equipment. Visitors to Tatenhill Airfield can typically see the helicopter, parked nearby to the cafe and viewing area of the runway.

Aerobility Operating Centre

Tatenhill works alongside Aerobility as one of their operating bases enabling disabled people, without exception, the opportunity to fly an aeroplane for fun, or to continue on and secure a Private Pilots Licence.
